When a Fashion Accessory Makes the Difference

How many times have we avoided wearing twice the same outfit lest someone may notice? So, any wedding, anniversary, or ceremony can make you go broke. But there is no need to worry anymore, since as of today recycling (and saving) has become chic: at the recent premiere of a 3D movie Kate Middleton, the queen of trends, was wearing for the third time an Alice Temperley’s creation. This most exquisite dress fits her perfectly, as when she first wore it for her thirtieth birthday (that time was a movie night as well: William had taken her to see War Horse). The Duchess must have thought that by changing fashion accessories she can look different: this time the 3D glasses were supposed to make the difference. Clark Kent and Superman must have taught her the lesson.

Kate: A Perfect Modern Way Woman?

Duke and Duchess of Cambridge 1st wedding anniversary

Alice Temperley, the acclaimed fashion designer of the British young aristocracy, can boast an exceptional client: Kate Middleton. She speaks about the future queen with enthusiasm mixed with discretion, arguing that she is the perfect incarnation of the modern woman. We are not sure where Temperley draws this conclusion from. The key feature of the modern woman is, in fact, the emancipation coming from having a job. Kate, everybody knows, has never worked, as her engagement with William was already a full-time job. As of today, her role is to be the mother to the heir to the throne and the wife to the future King: this is what princesses have been doing over the centuries. Only, she just wears shorter skirts. Kate is not and could never be a modern woman, and modern women do not dream to become like her, since they love their own independence. No princess can be a modern woman, unless she divorces from her prince.

Low-Cost Addiction

Kate has unfortunately slipped back into her low-cost frenzy. Queen Elizabeth’s dignifying efforts entrusted to the tiara lent to her grand-daughter in law have been nullified. A disappointment shared by many supporters of the monarchy scattered throughout the world, who finally saw her wear something princely. At the London premiere of the movie celebrating Nelson Mandela, an event disturbed by the sad news of the death of the South African leader, Kate wore a Zara fake-crystal necklace and a recycled dress. Her unruly hair loosely tied with a rubber band, definitely more suitable for a run in the park than for the red carpet. In the end, she must have thought, it was just a night at the movies with William. In a day that will be forever remembered for the loss of a man who changed the history of the civil rights, Kate had hair out of place and in such a state she was immortalized. Never leave home sloppily dressed: History may catch us unprepared.

Cinderella at Buckingham Palace

Yesterday was a historical day for the UK: for the first time, Catherine Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, has worn a tiara at a public reception. The Queen must have noticed that some royalness was missing on that lady and had her put on a treasure from the Windsor’s coffers: the Lotus Flower Tiara, an Egyptian-style tiara with diamonds and pearls once belonging to the Queen Mother. Its magic was working while Kate was already in the car, making Kate’s glance determined rather than compassionate, comme il faut for a future queen. To be sure, the tiara is just on loan. Tomorrow back to loose hair and low-cost apparel.
